As of recent the breastfeeding debate has become a heated topic among mothers. Some mothers simply can’t breastfeed, and others just rather not. Wether you choose to breastfeed or not is completely your own choice. However, studies have recently proven that breastfeeding is better for the overall health of the child than formula.
According to a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics, infants who breastfeed are smarter, faster and stronger. The study also found babies brought up on formula milk performed worse in mathematics, memory, IQ, and motor function tests at the age of seven compared to their breast-fed counter parts. The researchers also found that children who are breast- fed had a smaller volume of grey matter in their brains. This area is important for processing and transmitting neural signals to other parts of the brain.
Because of this new moms are encouraged to breastfeed their children for at least 6 months, ideally a year. We all know this is easier said than done! What are you thoughts on breastfeeding? Nowadays that woman are going back to work sooner than ever before it is not easy to breastfeed for a full year. Many woman are stay at home mothers and still do not breastfeed their children. Sometimes it is because of latch problems and other times they simply don’t like it. Which is very understandable.
